PRE-Events.Saturday, April 6The Plant
The Plant is located on the South side of Chicago, in the old Back of the Yards neighborhood. When completed, this 100 year old factory will have transformed into the first vertical farm in the United States. This sustainable structure will house local business, such as a bakery, Kombachi Tea Company, as well as, a shared kitchen for start-up food companies, hydroponic gardens, fish farm, and a community center for gathering. The building itself houses an anaerobic digester, making the operating of this building sustainable and clean on energy. Currently The Plant is partially under construction but still hosting tours showing the conversion process and how they are re-using materials from the factory to redesign for a new purpose. We invite you along for the tour, leaving the Main campus (in front of Lewis Hall) at 11am, and returning to campus around 4pm. If you would like to drive yourself, be sure to meet at The Plant (1400 W. 46th St., Chicago, IL 60609) 11:45am. |
